9 Tips For Preventing Makeup Transfer

PREVENT MAKE UP TRANSFER

Introduction: What Causes Makeup to Transfer?

The question of the week is – how do you prevent make-up transfer? The mortification we feel when we stain a perfectly good shirt is what we want to help you avoid. Keep reading to discover techniques to prevent make-up transfer.

Transfer Proof Strategies

The first thing to note is it is nearly impossible to make a full face of make-up transfer proof. This is because a lot of makeup is either oil or water-based or soluble. These compounds form the base to make for easy application and removal and they are the reason that makeup transfers. However, there are trusted methods to keep transfer to a minimum.

  1. Wear a base or primer that is formulated to help prevent your makeup from staining your clothes. This includes mattifying primers or complexion products. Water proof foundation is also a great option.
  2. Apply a translucent powder over your foundation. This will help to set it and also act as a barrier between your clothes and the foundation on your face, which can be prone to staining. Blot off excess oil during the day with a powder puff and a setting powder.
  3. Use a brush to apply concealer instead of using your fingers, which can lead to more smudging and staining on clothing if you accidentally rub the product off onto them during application.
  4. If you are wearing lipstick, apply it with a lip brush instead of directly from the tube or stick to avoid getting excess product on clothing while applying it and avoid leaving behind any stains when you remove it at the end of the day.
  5. Try not to re-apply lipstick over the same area multiple times.
  6. Apply natural lip balm before applying lipstick to prevent the chapping or cracking caused by sun exposure, cold weather and dry air.
  7. Be sure to exfoliate your lips regularly to prevent them from becoming flaky and cracked around your whole mouth after wearing a lot of lipstick for a long time. Tip: You can exfoliate your lips by using a sugar scrub or salt solution.
  8. Another way is to use a setting powder. Setting powders are made up of translucent powder that helps keep the makeup from smudging or coming off throughout the day. Setting powders come in different colors and textures, so you can find one that works best for you!
  9. Use a setting spray. Setting sprays create a film over your face of make-up that locks in the product and prevents transfer.

With these tips, you’ll definitely be seeing minimal transfer as you go about with a face full of makeup.
